Australia House opened within the Zoo

The Australian Embassy, the Director of the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden and the Lord Mayor of Budapest officially opened the "Australia House" within the Zoo on 26 January 2010. The Australia House is located in the newly-renovated Bird House which was designed by Károly Kós and Dezső Zrumeczky in 1912. The House not only introduces the wildlife and culture of the Australian region but also highlights some aspects of nature conservation. Apart from reptiles and birds, visitors may observe marsupials and other small mammals, and a variety of invertebrates. The House was uniquely designed in part to display nocturnal animals, so the public may see even during daytime the cuscus, the rat kangaroo, or the flying fox.
