Welcome

On behalf of all of my colleagues at the embassy I would like to welcome you to the embassy website. The website is designed to provide information for a range of different clients - including distinct sections for people seeking information on immigration matters, tourist visas, business opportunities and consular information for Australian citizens.

The site is a gateway to many other many helpful links for readers wishing to know more about Australia, its foreign and trade policies and culture. Those with a broader interest in Australia will find a wealth of interesting information available by taking the link from “About Australia" to the "Overview of Australia” pages.

For Australian citizens we attempt to provide information relevant to living or travelling in the region, as well as on events taking place in the region which have an Australian aspect to them. I recommend that all Australians travelling and living in Hungary regularly check the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Travel Advice for Hungary, which can be found through the link on our site under the heading ‘Travel Information for Australians‘.

Should you have any suggestions on how we can make the website more useful please do not hesitate to let us know.

Media Release

Australian Government to Apologise to Members of the Stolen Generations

For the attention of all Australians in Budapest

Australians in Budapest should be alert for and avoid large gatherings or demonstrations.

There have been some cases where generally peaceful demonstrations ended in violence as a result of the actions of a small minority of protesters. As a precaution you should avoid all protests and demonstrations and monitor the media and other local sources for information about possible security risks. You should follow the instructions of the local authorities.
